As we head into the New Year, we must reflect on what has been a very busy year from new staff to new patients. We are still accepting new NHS patients and as well as registering over 700 new patients last year alone, we have seen ourselves busier with unregistered patients in need of emergency dental care. And of course as well as working hard we’ve been playing hard too! We’ve had several enjoyable social events throughout the last year – for team building purposes obviously…
Over the last year we have seen two of our dentists move on. Lisa Durning left to start a family and Emily Mackie has chosen to follow a hospital based career in Forth Valley. On the upside Joanne McGilp and Heather Wilkes have joined our dental team and are proving to be as popular as their departed colleagues.
Steven, our practice principal has continued his work, mentoring and training recently qualified dentists, both at our practice and at the Edinburgh Dental Institute where he has delivered a number of presentations and study days.
We also made an effort to keep up with advances in technology and social media last year. I know what you’re all thinking ‘Where do we find the time?’… In January 2013 we launched a Facebook and Twitter account and it might just be worth checking out our pages. In April we gave away an Enlighten Tooth Whitening treatment worth £390 to one lucky winner picked at random through a month long Facebook campaign. Following on from the success of our giveaway we decided to partake in some local fundraising in May, this time through our Twitter account. We chose to raise funds for a local trust, The Rowan Boland Memorial Trust. The trust who are based in the Scottish Borders are funded through donations and fundraising only. The Trust provides junior sports people, living in the Scottish Borders, with assistance to enable them to further their sporting careers, whatever their chosen sport.
The Rowan Boland Memorial TrustWe pledged £1 to the trust for each new follower throughout the month of May, as well as pledging £1 for our existing followers. By the end of May, we had gained hundreds of new followers with a grand total of £454 which we rounded up to £500!
We thoroughly enjoyed working with The Rowan Boland Memorial Trust and helping to promote all their hard work and we hope to do some more local fundraising in the near future.
Lastly we would like to thank all existing patients for your continued support throughout and we look forward to seeing you again.
Make sure you check out our Facebook and Twitter pages!
